Artificial Intelligence Training receives backing from the AfDB to accelerate Agenda 2063's advancement

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has taken a significant step in advancing Agenda 2063 in Africa by providing technical and financial support for an Artificial Intelligence (AI) training initiative. This initiative aims to enhance the implementation of the continent's development blueprint, particularly the Second Ten-Year Plan (2024–2033) of Agenda 2063.

The 5-day workshop, co-hosted by the African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), was held in Lusaka, Zambia. The event brought together policymakers and practitioners from African Union member states, who engaged in hands-on sessions using AI tools such as Ailyse, ChatGPT, Google AI Studio, Google Gemini, and Perplexity. These platforms are designed to improve data analysis, policy-making, resource allocation, and accountability aligned with the goals of Agenda 2063.

Abibu Tamu, Lead Programme Co-ordinator at the African Development Bank Group, spoke at the workshop, emphasising that the AI tools used are revolutionising data collection, analysis, and reporting, enabling more targeted policy interventions and efficient resource allocation.

By strengthening institutional and human capacity for applying AI in governance and development frameworks, the AfDB aims to accelerate Africa's transformation, foster innovation, and enable evidence-based decision-making. The training is part of broader efforts to enhance institutional and human capacity across the continent, providing a platform for peer learning and knowledge exchange, with participating countries sharing innovative approaches and best practices in national development planning and results-based reporting.

The African Development Bank's support for the workshop reaffirms its commitment to strengthening results-based planning, monitoring, and accountability within the African Union framework. The support is provided through the Joint Secretariat Support Office (JSSO) of the Bank, demonstrating its dedication to working closely with the African Union Commission and strategic partners to accelerate the implementation of Agenda 2063, particularly its Second Ten-Year Implementation Plan.

In conclusion, the AfDB's role in this AI training initiative is to act as a technical and financial partner that empowers African states to leverage AI for more effective implementation, tracking, and achievement of Agenda 2063 priorities. This initiative underscores the AfDB's commitment to supporting Africa's integration of AI into sustainable development and governance systems.

Technology and artificial-intelligence were extensively used during the 5-day AI training workshop co-hosted by the African Development Bank (AfDB), the African Union Commission (AUC), and the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) in Lusaka, Zambia. The participants engaged hands-on sessions using AI tools such as Ailyse, ChatGPT, Google AI Studio, Google Gemini, and Perplexity, which are designed to improve data analysis, policy-making, resource allocation, and accountability aligned with the goals of Agenda 2063.
