AR in Retail: Transforming Shopping Experiences and Boosting Sales
Augmented Reality (AR) is set to transform retail in the coming years, with consumers increasingly seeking immersive and personalized shopping experiences. A recent study by Business Research Insights, published in 2025, highlights the growing adoption of AR in retail and its impact on consumer behaviour.
Over 34% of customers now use AR while shopping, with 47% utilising it both in-store and online. Millennial shoppers are particularly embracing this technology, with numbers expected to rise.
AR's appeal lies in its ability to provide visual information about product fit, reducing uncertainty in online purchases. This can even boost the appeal of less popular brands. For instance, 40% of shoppers are willing to pay more for a product if they can test it first with AR.
The technology also allows customers to assess product differences like colour and style variations (77% of AR users) and learn more about features (65%). This interactive experience can lead to unplanned purchases, with 72% of consumers buying items they hadn't initially intended to.
Stores offering AR are also more likely to attract customers. In fact, 61% of customers chose to visit a store that offered AR over one without it.
The future of retail looks promising for AR. As consumers continue to seek personalized and interactive shopping experiences, AR's role in reducing uncertainty, providing visual information, and enhancing the shopping journey is set to grow. Retailers embracing this technology stand to gain a competitive edge.
