Analog Logic System Offers Fresh Approach to Digital Circuits
Innovator Tim has developed a novel logic system using analog multiplexers, offering a fresh approach to digital circuits. This system, unlike traditional discrete logic using RTL or DTL, is easier to source and promises higher clock speeds.
Tim's system employs analog multiplexers, enabling it to handle analog signals. Initially, he attempted to recreate discrete logic using this method, but a polarity mistake caused latches to oscillate. Undeterred, Tim decided to invent a new logic system using analog components.
After refining his design, a second prototype functioned correctly and achieved an impressive 15 MHz clock speed. Tim's system includes more complex devices like latches, implemented with the aid of a capacitor.
Tim's analog logic system, presented in the 'Component Abuse Challenge' article, offers a modern alternative to traditional discrete logic. With a successful 15 MHz prototype and the potential for even higher clock speeds, this innovative approach holds promise for future digital circuit designs.
