Amazon introduces Kindle Colorsoft models in two variants: a standard 16GB version and a child-friendly version.

In a move to bring vibrant reading experiences to its users, Amazon has announced the release of two new Kindle models: the standard 16GB Kindle Colorsoft and the Kindle Colorsoft Kids Edition. These new devices are now available in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

The new Kindle Colorsoft display is a high-contrast, paper-like colour screen that brings covers and content to life, offering a more immersive reading experience compared to its black and white counterpart, the Kindle Paperwhite. The Kindle Colorsoft Kids model, being the first Kindle for kids in colour, features the same captivating display, making reading even more enjoyable for young readers.

Amazon is expanding its library for the Kindle Kids+ service, adding popular series like Artemis Fowl, Big Nate, Percy Jackson, Storm Runner, and Aru Shah. These new additions offer a wide range of age-appropriate books for children to explore.

The Kindle Colorsoft Kids Edition comes with an illustrated cover, one year of Amazon Kids, and a two-year worry-free guarantee. It also includes access to thousands of books, making it an ideal choice for children who love to read. After the initial 12 months, the Amazon Kids+ subscription will automatically renew every month starting at $5.99/month plus applicable tax.

The standard 16GB Kindle Colorsoft, priced at $264.99, comes with three months of Kindle Unlimited included. It offers the same high-contrast colour display as the Kids Edition, but lacks the ambient light sensor, wireless charging, and quick charge features found in the Signature Edition.

One of the key differences between the new Kindle Colorsoft models and the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition (32GB) lies in their storage capacity, lighting features, charging, and sensors. The Signature Edition boasts a 32GB storage, wireless (fast) charging, and an ambient light sensor with auto-adjusting front light, whereas the new Colorsoft models come with 16GB storage, lack the ambient light sensor, do not have wireless charging, and feature a manually adjustable warm light instead of auto-adjusting.

The original Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition was criticised for yellow banding issues due to the display stack and backlight technology. However, Amazon addressed this problem with a mid-cycle refresh of the Signature Edition in July 2025, introducing a new screen stack that eliminated yellow banding, along with other improvements. While it is not yet confirmed if the new 16GB Colorsoft and Kids models fully incorporate these hardware fixes, it is plausible that they also benefit from the improved screen technology.

A unique feature of the new Kindle Colorsoft models is the ability to highlight favourite scenes in yellow, orange, blue, and pink, adding a personal touch to the reading experience.

The value of the Kindle Colorsoft Kids model bundle is up to $364, making it an attractive offering for parents looking to introduce their children to the joy of reading. The standard Kindle Colorsoft Kids is available starting today for $294.99, offering a fun, kid-friendly cover along with the device.

The standard Kindle Colorsoft model, excluding the ambient light sensor, wireless charging, and quick charge features found in the Signature Edition, offers a 16GB storage and a manually adjustable warm light. In addition to the captivating color display, the Kindle Colorsoft Kids Edition includes an illustrated cover, one year of Amazon Kids, and a two-year worry-free guarantee, making it an ideal choice for young readers who also have access to thousands of books.
