Alibaba's Electronics, Apparel Expansion Drives 200% Sales Growth
E-commerce giant Alibaba's expansion into electronics and apparel is paying off. Sales of smartwatches, tablets, and laptops on its Flipkart platform soared over 200% year-on-year in June. This growth comes as China's instant retail sector, including flash sale platforms, booms.
Alibaba's foray into electronics began with the rebranding of its Taobao Hourly Delivery service to Taobao Flash Sale in May. This move consolidated all instant retail operations under the new brand. Soon after, Huawei and Xiaomi joined Meituan Flash Sale, launched in April, promising delivery in as little as 30 minutes.
Flipkart, too, has seen remarkable growth. Its smartphone sales increased by over 300% year-on-year since June. Running shoes and athletic wear also posted impressive growth, exceeding 200% on the platform. This growth is part of a wider trend in China's instant retail sector, with flash sale platforms thriving.
