AI-DLC, a fresh AI-centered methodology, unveiled by AWS, aims to empower businesses to integrate AI into their software development processes. This innovative approach is tailored for creating intricate software systems efficiently on a large scale.
AWS Unveils New Approach to Software Development with AI-Driven Development Lifecycle (AI-DLC)
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced a new approach to software development, integrating generative AI throughout the software development lifecycle, at its AWS DevSphere 2025 event in Bengaluru, India.
The AI-Driven Development Lifecycle (AI-DLC) is a comprehensive framework designed to automate and streamline tasks such as data preparation, model training, deployment, monitoring, and iterative refinement. It leverages AWS tools like Amazon SageMaker for MLOps, Amazon Bedrock for foundational models, and Amazon QDeveloper for AI-assisted code development.
By employing AI-DLC, global and Indian businesses, including S&P Global, Wipro, HackerRank, and Dhan, are embedding AI into their software development workflows. For instance, Wipro was able to build four production-ready modules within 20 hours using the AI-DLC methodology and Amazon Q Developer.
The AI-DLC approach offers several benefits. It automates model training, tuning, and deployment with SageMaker Pipelines and Model Registry, helping maintain and improve model quality over time. It also uses AI-powered coding assistants like Amazon QDeveloper to accelerate software development through natural language interactions within IDEs. Furthermore, it leverages pre-built and customizable foundational models via Amazon Bedrock to speed up AI adoption without extensive in-house ML expertise.
Integrating monitoring and governance tools is another key aspect of AI-DLC, enabling businesses to manage AI model drift, bias, and compliance across deployments. This approach enables rapid innovation and scalability in AI applications across various industries such as education, finance, and technology in India and worldwide.
AWS SageMaker Studio also supports automation of environment setup and collaborative AI development through Code Editor lifecycle configurations, further assisting teams in maintaining consistent AI development environments. This capability helps Indian enterprises reduce cycle times and operational complexities in AI workflows, thereby accelerating AI-driven digital transformation initiatives.
In addition to AI-DLC, AWS also announced the AWS AI-Native Builders Community, a peer-to-peer network of technology leaders for sharing breakthroughs, learnings, and best practices. Neil Fox, Senior Vice President for Generative AI at Persistent Systems, is a founding member of this community.
AWS is also providing a free subscription to AWS Skill Builder for 12 months to AWS Academy students globally, to learn AI content. The goal is to engage with 2.7 million students and early-career professionals globally within the first year.
The announcements are building on those from the AWS Summit in New York last month, where AWS launched the AWS AI League, a program where developers compete to solve real-world business challenges with generative AI, offering up to USD 2 million in AWS credits.
The AI-DLC methodology is an openly accessible AI-native methodology designed to help organizations use AI in the software development process. With these new initiatives, AWS is helping customers build and deploy AI agents that accelerate software development, boost productivity, and transform customer experiences.
- The AI-Driven Development Lifecycle (AI-DLC) utilizes AI-powered coding assistants like Amazon QDeveloper to expedite software development by facilitating natural language interactions within Integrated Development Environments (IDEs).
- By automating model training, tuning, and deployment with SageMaker Pipelines and Model Registry, AWS's AI-DLC approach aims to continually enhance and maintain model quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
- The AI-DLC methodology not only eases software development but also accelerates AI adoption through the use of pre-built and customizable foundational models provided by Amazon Bedrock, reducing the need for extensive in-house Machine Learning (ML) expertise.
- With the AI-DLC approach, businesses can scale their AI applications across multiple industries, fostering rapid innovation in sectors such as education, finance, and technology, both within India and on a global scale.
