A research or prediction suggesting that the city of Lübeck might achieve a state of being completely free from dust particles by the year 2026.

Lübeck, Germany is set to revolutionise its urban traffic flow with the implementation of the Intelligent, Analytical, Agile Traffic Management System (VIAA) in 2026. This innovative traffic management initiative, initially launched as the "Congestion-Free 2015" project in 2008, aims to optimise traffic flow using advanced analytics and adaptive control.

The federal government has positively evaluated a preliminary application for funding, with an expected contribution of 65% of the costs, amounting to approximately 3.15 million euros. The total cost of implementing the VIAA system is approximately 4.9 million euros, with the city of Lübeck contributing 1.7 million euros towards the project.

The system will analyse traffic flows in the VIAA system, not only for real-time traffic control but also for predicting traffic volume. This will enable buses, cars, and cyclists to access information about how long the current red phase will last, initially through an app. In case a bus is stuck in traffic, the relevant traffic light will stay green longer.

Preparations for connecting the traffic lights in Lübeck are already underway, with the replacement of traffic light controls and the implementation of central control scheduled for the years 2024 to 2026. The VIAA system aims to optimise traffic flow beyond just traffic light signals, with sensors and cameras analysing traffic flows for predictive purposes.

The VIAA system is also planned to be integrated into the "Smart City" project for wider accessibility. This integration will enable the system to provide a more comprehensive solution for urban traffic management, contributing to a smoother and more efficient flow of traffic in Lübeck.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information, consulting Lübeck municipal transport authorities, official project websites, or recent press releases related to VIAA would be necessary.

  1. The federal government has expressed interest in supporting the city of Lübeck's innovative traffic management project,VIAA, by providing a significant portion of the financing, which will also involve the integration of this system into the broader 'Smart City' initiative, aiming to optimize traffic flow and traffic management across various sectors such as finance, transportation, and technology.
  2. With the integration of VIAA into the Smart City project, a more comprehensive approach to urban traffic management will be established, allowing the system to analyze not only traffic flows in real-time for efficient control of traffic light signals but also predict traffic volume using advanced analytics and adaptive control, ultimately benefiting the finance, transportation, and technology sectors within the city.
