A Chinese business empire, Alibaba, makes a visit to our institution located in New Delhi.

On November 26, 2019, the Design Team of VMate, a popular social media app owned by the Chinese Tech giant Alibaba Group, visited the campus in New Delhi. The visit was part of a workshop organised at the institution, aiming to foster an exchange of culture, ideas, and technology with the Indian teams.

The main agenda of the VMate team's visit was to discuss India design preferences and aesthetics. Alex, Head - Design team at VMate, stated that they were there to 'better understand the significance of internationalization and localization of design' for the Indian audience.

During the workshop, the VMate team came prepared with a series of questions targeting the present design sense and preference of the Indian audience. The students had an in-depth discussion with Alibaba's colleagues, sharing their thoughts and opinions on the current trends in design and content.

The workshop was beneficial for both the students at the institution and the Chinese representatives. It provided a unique opportunity for students to interact with professionals from a leading tech company, while the VMate team expressed enthusiasm about gaining insights into the students' inspiration for designs in India.

The VMate social media app allows users to record and post their daily life experiences with in-app CGI filters. The team showed interest in understanding the habits and aspects of the students' lives they draw influence from in India.

In the final part of the workshop, the students were given a choice between being a part of the design team or the content team. This decision allowed them to contribute directly to the future development of the app, ensuring that it caters to the preferences of the Indian audience.

The visit concluded as a brilliant exchange of culture, ideas, and technology, with both parties gaining valuable insights and experiences. The VMate team, represented by Senior UX Designers Zhao Chen and Li Wei, left the campus with a better understanding of the Indian market, ready to incorporate these insights into their future designs for the Indian audience.
